PATONG, THAILAND – A 22-year-old man from Myanmar died in a motorbike crash on Phuket after striking a concrete barrier while riding with friends in the early hours.
Young rider killed on Phrabarami Road
The victim, Myint Myat Aung, crashed on Phrabarami Road at about 1:31 a.m. while travelling from Patong toward Kamala with two friends. According to police, he was riding alone behind the others when they suddenly heard a loud impact.
“It sounded like a falling motorcycle,”
said Tay Zar Moe Myint, a friend of the victim, telling investigators he turned back and found him already fatally injured at the roadside.
Collision with concrete barrier
Officers arriving at the scene found a grey Honda Click 160 that had collided head-on with a roadside protective barrier. The force of the impact was believed to have been high, and the rider was found lying on the road and pronounced dead at the scene.
A forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital carried out an initial examination there, while the exact cause of death was to be determined.
Police: no other vehicle involved
Initial findings from Patong Police indicated that no other vehicle was involved in the crash. Investigators photographed the scene, collected evidence and questioned witnesses, and an autopsy was expected to provide further clarity.
Police stated that their investigation was ongoing, with additional witnesses to be interviewed and more evidence gathered.
Friends and family in mourning
Officers informed the grieving relatives of the Myanmar national, who, at 22, was seen as having his life ahead of him. His friends were visibly shaken, having spent time together earlier in Soi Khlong Bang Wat before setting off toward Kamala.
The incident marked a tragic end to what had begun as a cheerful night out among friends during the holiday season.
Warning over motorbike risks on Phuket
Authorities described the death as a stark reminder of the dangers of motorbike riding on Phuket, especially at night and on bends. Many visitors were said to underestimate the risky road conditions, and Phrabarami Road is known for frequent accidents.
“Always drive carefully and appropriately, especially during night-time hours.”
said the Thai police, appealing to all motorists.
Recurring fatalities on the resort island
Reports of fatal motorbike accidents on the island were described as anything but rare, with both tourists and foreign workers repeatedly losing their lives. Investigators noted that excessive speed and alcohol were often factors, though the precise circumstances of this crash were still being clarified.
For the 22-year-old from Myanmar, however, all help came too late, adding another fatality to Phuket’s persistent road toll.
