PATHUM THANI, Thailand – Police have solved a murder case involving a Burmese labor broker, arresting a 50-year-old suspect just two days after the crime.
Authorities apprehended a 50-year-old man in connection with the death of the 43-year-old woman, identified as Thinnuay Mawin, known affectionately as “A” by her community. The suspect has confessed to the killing, but the motive behind the crime remains unclear. Police leadership is scheduled to announce further details later today.
Victim Helped Burmese Workers
Thinnuay Mawin, originally from Myanmar, worked as a labor broker assisting her compatriots. She resided in a house located behind the Foundation for the Promotion of Islamic Education in Tambon Na Mai, Lat Lum Kaeo District. Investigators quickly determined that the perpetrator likely came from her immediate social circle, leading them to focus their attention on her acquaintances.
The victim was discovered deceased in her bedroom by witnesses late on the evening of June 6th, around 11:40 PM. Forensic examination later revealed the woman had sustained severe physical trauma, a scene that deeply affected even experienced law enforcement officers.
Surveillance Camera Led Investigators to Suspect
Investigators analyzing footage from a nearby surveillance camera identified a suspicious individual. This lead ultimately allowed officers to track down and locate the suspect in the neighboring province of Suphan Buri. On the evening of June 8th, a joint operation involving the regional police, Pathum Thani provincial police, and local station officers resulted in the arrest of 50-year-old Nai Leng.
He was immediately taken to the Lat Lum Kaeo police station. The suspect provided a full confession that same night, with a Burmese interpreter present during questioning. Leng admitted to killing the labor broker.
Confession Without a Clear Motive
While Nai Leng confessed to the act, the reason behind the extreme violence he inflicted remains in the dark, at least for now. Police Colonel Dutsadee Hiranrat, head of the local police station, confirmed the confession but declined to provide further details, citing the upcoming press conference. The accused remains in police custody.
Police Generals to Announce Details
Police Lieutenant General Wattana Yeejeen, Commander of Police Region 1, and Police Major General Peerapol Chotikastien, Chief of Pathum Thani Provincial Police, have called for a press conference scheduled for 10:00 AM on June 9th. At this briefing, investigators are expected to publicly reveal the findings of their inquiry and potential background information related to the crime.
