PHUKET, THAILAND – A 30-year-old woman died after her motorcycle crashed into a power pole on Phuket’s Thepkrasattri Road in the early hours.
Fatal crash before dawn in Koh Kaew
The emergency call reached police at 5:12 a.m., reporting a serious crash on Thepkrasattri Road in Koh Kaew, directly in front of a 7-Eleven store. A witness, a nurse, provided immediate first aid at the scene before the injured rider was rushed with lights and sirens to Mission Hospital Phuket. Despite rapid treatment, the hospital informed police at around 6:20 a.m. that the young woman had died from her severe injuries.
Victim identified as 30-year-old from southern province
Police identified the victim as Wilasinee Tiprongpol (30), originally from Nakhon Si Thammarat province. She had been riding an orange‑black Honda Zoomer-X bearing a license plate from Ranong province. Officers at the scene found the motorcycle heavily damaged after the impact with the power pole.
No sign of other vehicles involved
According to initial police findings, no other vehicle appeared to have been involved in the crash, and there were no suspects. Police Colonel Chatree Chukaew, head of Phuket City Police, confirmed that a comprehensive investigation had been launched and that traces at the scene had been secured. The exact cause remained unclear, with possible factors such as excessive speed, inattention or a technical defect under examination.
Police urge caution in early hours
Police called on all road users to drive carefully, especially during the early morning hours when visibility and alertness may be reduced. They highlighted that lighter traffic conditions before dawn could tempt some drivers and riders to travel at unsafe speeds.
“We appeal to everyone to obey speed limits and always wear protective gear.”
said a police spokesperson.
Rising toll on Phuket’s roads
Authorities stressed that this case was not an isolated incident. Since 1 January 2025, Phuket had already recorded six deaths and 674 injuries in road accidents, according to figures from the national road safety agency ThaiRSC. The agency’s statistics were described as alarming, with Phuket remaining one of the most dangerous islands in the country for motorcycle riders.
Dangerous main artery under closer scrutiny
Thepkrasattri Road is one of the island’s main traffic arteries, carrying vehicles through several local communities. In the early morning, when traffic is still light, some motorists tended to drive at excessive speed, increasing the risk of serious collisions. Police announced they would monitor known accident hotspots along the route even more intensively in an effort to prevent further tragedies.
