The Fatal Collision at 1am
At around 1am, police and rescue teams rushed to Highway 36 heading into Pattaya after reports of a violent collision. The scene was devastating: debris scattered across the asphalt, a green-and-yellow Toyota taxi with its left side crushed, and the remains of a white Honda Click motorbike torn apart.
The rider, identified as Anuchit Wannato, 39, from Bang Lamung, was found unconscious, pulseless, and critically injured. Medics from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation tried desperately to revive him, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the roadside.
Taxi Driver Speaks Out
The taxi driver, who escaped unhurt, told police he was attempting a U-turn when the motorbike came speeding toward him.
“I braked and tried to swerve, but it slammed into the back of my car,” he said. Police later confirmed that CCTV footage had captured the exact moment of impact. The driver was taken in for questioning while investigators reviewed the evidence.
Pattaya’s Deadly Roads
This tragedy is just the latest in a series of deadly road accidents in Pattaya, a city notorious for its dangerous traffic. On September 13, a 42-year-old American rider was seriously injured after crashing his motorbike into a lamp post on Thappraya Road. He was rushed to hospital with facial injuries and abrasions after being treated by the Sawang Boriboon rescue unit.
With motorbike accidents claiming lives on an almost weekly basis, questions are once again being raised about Pattaya’s road safety and whether enough is being done to prevent such devastating crashes.
