Thai police seize massive meth haul after high-speed pursuit in Phang Nga
A dramatic high-speed chase through the night in southern Thailand has led to the capture of a suspected drug courier and the seizure of 200,000 methamphetamine pills, police confirmed.
Midnight stop turns into wild pursuit
Around midnight on September 12, highway police signaled a grey pickup truck to stop on Phetkasem Highway (Highway 4) in Takua Pa district, Phang Nga province. Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated and sped away, triggering a chase through the district.
During the pursuit, officers observed the driver tossing two black plastic bags from the vehicle. Moments later, police managed to block the truck and arrest the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Mr. Imrohem from Ao Luek district, Krabi.
200,000 pills branded with “WY” logo
Inside the discarded bags, officers discovered a massive stash of narcotics: 100 bundles of bright orange methamphetamine pills, each stamped with the “WY” logo. The total haul amounted to 200,000 pills, worth millions of baht on the street.
Under interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted he was working for a drug syndicate run by a figure known only as “Bang Yeo.” He claimed he had been instructed to transport the drugs from Kuraburi district in Phang Nga to Ao Luek in Krabi, earning 60,000 baht (about €1,500) per delivery.
Hunt for “Bang Yeo” intensifies
Police have formally charged Mr. Imrohem with possession of Category 1 narcotics with intent to sell. He was handed over to Takua Pa police station for further investigation. Authorities are now focusing on tracing other couriers and unmasking the identity of “Bang Yeo,” the alleged mastermind of the trafficking ring.
The Phetkasem Highway, Thailand’s main north-south route, has long been a notorious corridor for narcotics smuggling from the Golden Triangle region down to the country’s southern provinces. Despite stepped-up patrols and checkpoints, drug networks continue to exploit the route — with increasingly bold tactics.
