Authorities seize nearly 2 tons of meth and ketamine in major sting operation

BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thai authorities have dismantled a massive drug trafficking ring, seizing nearly two tons of illegal substances and arresting three suspects. In a significant operation on May 29, anti-narcotics officers intercepted a tanker truck carrying 1.74 tons of crystal meth and 50 kilograms of ketamine, with an estimated street value exceeding 200 million Baht. The truck was reportedly en route from Chiang Rai province to Central Thailand, with the drugs destined for distributors in Bangkok and surrounding areas. Authorities are now focused on identifying and apprehending further members of the criminal network.

The total seizure included a staggering 1.74 tons of crystalline methamphetamine and 50 kilograms of ketamine, collectively valued at over 200 million Baht on the street. Three men were apprehended at the scene.

Investigators revealed that the shipment was intended for distribution networks operating within Bangkok and its neighboring provinces. This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the police to disrupt drug smuggling routes originating from the northern border regions. Specific details regarding the final distribution points were not disclosed.

One of the arrested individuals has been identified as the coordinator of the operation. According to statements made to the police, this suspect admitted to receiving the shipment in Chiang Rai and organizing its delivery to a high-ranking dealer in Region 1. Investigators reported that this individual was promised a sum of 600,000 Baht for his role, though it was not specified if the payment had been made.

The two other detainees, described as escorts for the convoy, reportedly confessed to the police of their involvement in four similar smuggling trips.
