RAWAI, THAILAND – A man in his 40s was arrested in Rawai after allegedly harassing local businesses and residents for several days while carrying knives.
Repeated incidents in Sajuan area of Rawai
Residents and business owners in the Sajuan area reported a series of incidents over several days involving an unknown man. According to witnesses, he entered restaurants, shops and some private homes, where he aggressively demanded money, water and food and put people under pressure.
The man was said by residents to have appeared several times with knives. Businesses near cannabis shops in the neighborhood were particularly affected, and staff and customers felt intimidated by his behavior.
Police respond to public complaints
After multiple reports reached the Chalong Police Station, Lieutenant Colonel Chakrapong Petrat sent a patrol to the affected area. Officers encountered the man on site and arrested him.
The detainee did not resist. He was taken into custody and brought to the police station.
No prohibited items found during search
During a search of the man at the time of his arrest, officers did not find any prohibited items. Investigators were now reviewing all documented incidents and evaluating witness statements.
It remained unclear whether the knives mentioned by witnesses in earlier incidents had been secured as evidence. Police had not yet issued a final legal assessment of the alleged offenses.
Authorities call on affected persons to testify
Investigators urged all people who had been harassed by the man to contact Chalong Police Station.
“Only with complete witness statements can the incidents be prosecuted under criminal law.”
said police investigators.
Whether an arrest warrant would be requested or the man would be included in the proceedings under other measures was left open at the time of reporting. Further information was expected after the initial phase of the investigation was completed.
Security situation in southern Phuket
Rawai and neighboring southern districts of Phuket were generally considered relatively quiet residential areas with a mixed population. Incidents of this kind were rare but, according to police experience, often led to lasting insecurity in the neighborhood.
Police announced an increased presence in the affected area. Residents were asked to report suspicious observations directly.
