NONTHABURI, THAILAND – A Lamborghini Huracán worth up to 30 million baht was left in wreckage in Nonthaburi after slamming into an electricity pole, with the driver and his passenger escaping with minor injuries.
Supercar destroyed near MRT station
Emergency services were alerted at around 1:30 a.m. to a serious crash on Rattanathibet Road in the direction of Bang Yai. The accident occurred near the Bang Rak Noi Tha It MRT station, just before the turnoff to Ratchaphruek Road. Police arrived to find extensive damage at the scene.
A grey Lamborghini Huracán with red license plates had its front end completely destroyed. An electricity pole at the roadside had been knocked down by the impact.
Newly registered luxury car written off
The wreck was identified as a Lamborghini Huracán LP 640‑2, an Italian supercar valued by experts at between 25 and 30 million baht (about 625,000 to 750,000 euros). The red plates indicated it was a newly registered vehicle. The force of the collision bent the pole and put the local power supply at risk.
Two occupants suffer only minor injuries
Despite the severe impact, the outcome for those inside the car was relatively mild. The driver, a man estimated to be between 45 and 50 years old, and his female passenger, believed to be 30 to 35, sustained only minor injuries. They were taken to Bang Sri Muang Police Station for questioning as part of the investigation into the crash.
Police examine possible loss of control
Investigators launched a probe into the exact course of events, with initial evidence pointing to a loss of control by the driver. According to police information, the Lamborghini first struck the central barrier separating the express lane from the feeder road. From there, it was thrown into the electricity pole and hit it with full force, with the energy of the impact sufficient to topple the heavy structure.
Power utility secures damaged pole
Following the crash, teams from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) were dispatched to the site. Technicians temporarily cut power in the area to assess the damage and secure the installation. Recovery of the completely demolished luxury car then began, with a tow truck removing the remains from the roadway.
Road cleared after lengthy recovery
Road crews cleaned the debris‑strewn surface of car parts and oil. Traffic in the area was temporarily affected during the recovery and cleanup operation. The incident underscored the vulnerability of critical power infrastructure along busy urban routes.
High speed blamed for devastating damage
Authorities described the crash as another illustration of the dangers of excessive speed. The damage to the 30‑million‑baht vehicle and the collapsed pole were cited as evidence of the enormous velocity involved. For the driver, the consequences were expected to be extremely costly, with repair or replacement expenses likely to be astronomical and the insurance company set to scrutinise the case closely.
Police were investigating whether alcohol or reckless speeding played a role in the accident. The case was portrayed as an expensive lesson in the limits of modern technology and the risks of high‑performance driving on public roads.
