PATTAYA, THAILAND – A late-night jealousy dispute in Pattaya led to the explosion of a homemade firework, leaving four people injured.
Late-night blast at residential property
The explosion occurred on 25 January 2026 at around 12:16 a.m. in a house on Soi Thung Klom, address 46/1, according to police. Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Center and officers from Nongprue Police Station were dispatched after an emergency call reported a loud bang and multiple injuries.
On arrival, responders found four injured people who had been in the outdoor area of the house at the time of the blast. They provided initial treatment at the scene before transporting all four to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
Four injured, husband seriously hurt
The most seriously injured victim was Christian Kamma (27), a Norwegian‑Thai national, who suffered severe injuries to his left hand from the blast pressure. His wife, Phatcharida Kamma (23), was also hurt, while two others present, Anuwat Chomphot and Suphaphon Choaha (both 21), sustained minor injuries and complained of ringing in their ears.
Family members and neighbours gathered in front of the house after the incident. The injured man’s mother placed the emergency call immediately after the explosion.
Argument over jealousy preceded explosion
Witness statements indicated the group had been drinking alcohol in front of the house before an argument broke out between the couple, apparently driven by jealousy. According to one person present, the husband was agitated and had a homemade firework with him.
The device was reportedly triggered during the course of the dispute, causing the explosion, while investigators were still clarifying the exact sequence of events. Police said formal statements would be taken once the victims’ health allowed it.
Damage to furniture and windows
The blast damaged furniture in the house, including a marble table, and shattered window panes. Investigators documented the property damage and other traces at the scene as part of the ongoing case.
The incident underlined, in the view of investigators, how quickly an escalating dispute combined with alcohol and dangerous objects could become a serious threat to everyone involved.
Police secure remains of illegal device
Police collected remnants of the firework, identifying it as a type of improvised explosive device that had caused accidents on several occasions in the past. Authorities stressed that such items posed a significant risk of injury.
An investigation was launched into possession and improper handling of the homemade explosive, and a criminal case was being prepared. All four injured people remained under medical treatment.
Risks of improvised fireworks highlighted
Improvised fireworks continued to appear in private settings and were often underestimated, according to specialist agencies that had issued repeated warnings. They pointed to the risk of severe hand and finger injuries, eye and facial damage and possible permanent hearing loss from uncontrolled explosions.
The incident raised wider questions about personal responsibility, conflict management and the dangers of homemade fireworks. Experts emphasised that prevention, public education and early de-escalation were essential to avoid such situations and that the investigation would now determine the legal consequences of the events.
