PHUKET, THAILAND – Thai police arrested a 35-year-old cybercriminal wanted internationally after coordinated surveillance in Phuket led to a precise hotel raid.
FBI warning prompts rapid action
On October 28, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) alerted the Royal Thai Police about a high-risk suspect. According to the communication, the man had previously targeted government networks in Europe and the United States and was en route to Thailand.
“A 35-year-old cyber-criminal was on the way to Thailand,”
said FBI Officials, United States Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Within 24 hours, a special unit of the Immigration Bureau, Tourist Police, and Cyber Crime Investigation Division coordinated monitoring operations across southern Thailand.
Arrival and surveillance in Phuket
Immigration data confirmed that the man entered Thailand through Phuket International Airport on October 30. Officers tracked his accommodation to a hotel located in Thalang district, where he had rented a room for an extended stay.
“He settled in Phuket,”
said Police Spokesperson, Royal Thai Police.
Investigators maintained continuous surveillance for seven days, ensuring evidence integrity and security coordination with international partners.
Hotel raid and arrest operation
On November 6, a Special Operations Team executed a planned entry at the Thalang hotel. The suspect was detained without injury or resistance. Police recorded the seizure of multiple laptops, smartphones, and digital wallets, which were immediately catalogued as evidence.
“We were able to arrest the internationally wanted man,”
said Police General Puroplode Kerkkietiya, Royal Thai Police.
Officials transported the confiscated devices to the Cyber Crime Division Headquarters in Bangkok for forensic analysis. Early data indicated active encryption protocols and cryptocurrency transactions.
Cross-border coordination and next steps
The Royal Thai Police confirmed that cooperation with the FBI had been “fully effective,” enabling the swift identification and capture of the suspect.
“This leads to closer cooperation in combating technology crime,”
said Official Statement, Royal Thai Police.
Authorities are now processing the man’s extradition to the United States, where prosecutors are preparing criminal charges related to network intrusions affecting public institutions.
Next phases of investigation
The forensic team, under the command of Police Major General Sittipong Malasri, initiated technical analysis of seized data on November 7. The investigation aims to identify whether the suspect launched further cyberattacks while residing in Phuket.
“The evidence is now being technically analyzed,”
said Royal Thai Police Investigators.
Officials confirmed that the operation serves as a test case for Thailand’s enhanced cyber enforcement capabilities.
