KRABI, THAILAND – India’s largest low-cost airline, IndiGo, is suspending its direct flights to Krabi for the entire tourist off-season. From July 1 to September 30, 2026, the airline will cease operations to the Thai coastal province, citing an explosion in operational costs, particularly a threefold increase in fuel prices.
Fuel Price Tripling Forces Action
The cost of jet fuel has surged from approximately 80 US dollars to over 240 US dollars per barrel. Fuel now accounts for more than half of IndiGo’s total operating expenses, a significant increase from its previous share of around 30 percent.
The airline attributes the massive price hike to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East. Volatile energy markets are placing pressure on airlines globally.
Six Destinations Temporarily Cut
In addition to Krabi, the temporary suspension affects five other cities: Langkawi, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City, and Siem Reap. The connection to Siem Reap will pause starting July 3rd, with all other routes beginning at the start of the month.
IndiGo describes this as a network restructuring that considers capacity management, airspace restrictions, and weaker passenger demand during the off-season. These flight adjustments are part of a broader adaptation of the airline’s international offerings.
IndiGo Maintains Over 1,800 International Flights Weekly
Despite the reductions, the airline emphasizes that it continues to operate the majority of its international network. More than 1,800 weekly services remain in place, with reduced frequencies or pauses being standard tools for the third quarter outside of peak periods.
Flight schedules are being strategically adjusted to actual operating costs, IndiGo explained. Simultaneously, the airline aims to maintain its core international connectivity.
Airline Reserves Option for Earlier Krabi Resumption
Bookings for all affected routes are expected to become available again from October 1, 2026. However, IndiGo is closely monitoring fuel prices and passenger demand. The Krabi route could be resumed earlier if conditions improve.
