Thailand’s Meteorological Department warns of heavy rain and thunderstorms sweeping across 30 provinces, including Bangkok, as a powerful monsoon trough brings the threat of flash floods and travel disruption.
Weather Warnings for Bangkok and Beyond
The main keyword, heavy rain, dominates today’s forecast, with the Meteorological Department urging caution across northern, central, and eastern regions.
Bangkok and its surrounding areas are set for thunderstorms in 70% of the city, with some districts expecting intense downpours. Temperatures hover between 25 and 26°C, peaking at 32 to 34°C, with southwesterly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.
Regional Breakdown: Where the Storms Will Hit
Northern provinces like Tak, Phitsanulok, Phichit, and Phetchabun are bracing for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in 40% of the area. Temperatures range from 22 to 25°C, reaching highs of 32 to 35°C.
In the northeast, 60% of the region is set for storms, with Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, and Surin singled out for significant rain. The central region, including Kanchanaburi and Ayutthaya, faces similar conditions.
Eastern provinces such as Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi, and Trat are on high alert, with 70% of the area expecting thunderstorms and heavy rain. Coastal areas could see waves over 2 metres during storms.
South Prepares for More Downpours
The southern region’s east coast, including Surat Thani and Songkhla, faces thunderstorms in 60% of the area, with heavy rain likely. The west coast, covering Ranong and Phang Nga, expects storms in 40% of the region.
Sea conditions remain rough, with waves reaching over 2 metres in stormy zones. Authorities advise caution for small boats and coastal residents.

Officials warn residents to stay alert for flash floods and sudden water surges, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas. “People should closely monitor weather updates and avoid risky areas,” the Meteorological Department states.
With heavy rain affecting Bangkok and much of Thailand, commuters and travellers are urged to plan ahead as the country faces another day of turbulent weather.
