Fuel prices jump at dawn in Bangkok

PTT Station and Bangchak raised gasohol by 2 Baht and diesel by 1.80 Baht per litre from 5 a.m.

BANGKOK, THAILAND – Major fuel retailers raised gasoline and diesel prices from 5 a.m., hitting commuters and delivery services at the start of the day.

Early-morning price surge

Fuel companies PTT Station and Bangchak Petroleum increased retail prices nationwide from 5 a.m. on 24 March. The change affected motorists heading out for work, delivery runs and early trips shortly after the new tariffs took effect.

The adjustment was particularly noticeable for drivers in Bangkok and the provinces, where daily refuelling routines were tightly scheduled. For many car and motorcycle users, the sudden jump in pump prices was immediately felt in their regular expenses.

Which fuels went up – and which did not

According to the companies, all gasohol variants rose by 2 Baht per litre, while the diesel group increased by 1.80 Baht per litre. These higher rates applied across the product range listed by the two major retailers.

An exception was Hi Premium 97, whose price remained unchanged despite the broader adjustment. This premium grade was therefore the only listed fuel that did not see a price hike in the new schedule.

Latest reference prices before the hike

Among the most recently stated guide prices, GSH95S EVO had stood at 35.05 Baht per litre. GSH91S EVO was listed at 34.68 Baht per litre before the increases.

For the cheaper ethanol blends, GSH E20S EVO was quoted at 30.05 Baht per litre. GSH E85S EVO had been priced at 26.79 Baht per litre, providing a lower-cost option ahead of the new rates.

Diesel also more expensive

In the diesel segment, reference figures put Hi Diesel S at 32.94 Baht per litre. Hi Premium Diesel S had been listed significantly higher, at 48.84 Baht per litre.

The exact pump prices displayed from 5 a.m. depended on how each station applied the announced surcharges to its posted fuel types. Local implementation at individual outlets could therefore lead to slight differences at the nozzle.

Bangkok surcharge often overlooked

The published guide prices explicitly excluded the local levy charged in Bangkok. This additional city surcharge was not reflected in the reference figures.

As a result, the actual price paid per litre in the capital could be higher than the official guide values. Motorists in Bangkok therefore faced a total cost at the pump that exceeded the base prices circulated by the companies.
