BANGKOK, THAILAND – An early-morning fire in a row of houses on Samsen Road saw a foreign man wake residents and push them to flee, with no injuries reported despite damage to several buildings.
Fire in Soi Samsen 3 – flames on the second floor
The blaze broke out at about 4.55 a.m. on 11 March on the second floor of a two-storey commercial building in Soi Samsen 3 in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district. Because several units had been built as a connected row, the flames quickly spread to neighboring houses.
Officers at the scene said firefighters brought the fire under control in around 30 minutes. In total, four to five buildings were damaged, but according to official information there were no reports of injured residents.
The man in the white shirt – wake up, warn, get out
A video later posted on TikTok showed the foreign man trying to communicate with people on site and urging them to leave the buildings. One local resident praised him in the caption for waking neighbors and reporting the incident to rescue and fire services.
Social media users highlighted how his actions appeared to help get people moving quickly out of danger. The clip showed him moving along the row, gesturing and speaking insistently to those still inside.
Helping a disabled resident – carried out of danger
The Facebook page BKKWheels reported that the man also carried a disabled Thai resident out of a house during the fire. According to the account, he was among the key helpers who ensured that residents left the danger zone in time.
Commenters described the episode as an example of how individual initiative could make a critical difference in an emergency. They pointed to the coordination between residents, informal helpers and formal emergency responders at the scene.
Cause unclear – forensic team probes bar-operation reports
The Forensic Science Office was investigating the cause of the fire. Some reports claimed that the building where the fire started had been operated as a bar, a detail police initially did not confirm.
Authorities had not released further findings on the source of the blaze. Officials were expected to review structural damage across the affected units.
Thanks online – and a reminder of a similar case
In social media comments, many users thanked the man, including people who had not been directly affected. They framed his behavior as a reminder of how quickly ordinary bystanders could become first responders in Bangkok.
The incident recalled a similar widely shared case from January of the previous year, when a foreign helper assisted a rescue team in creating space in a traffic jam for an emergency transport so that a patient reached hospital in time. The discussion online focused on whether such helpers should receive public honors or whether visibility and debate on the internet were recognition enough.
