BANGKOK, THAILAND – An unidentified foreign man was critically injured after jumping from an elevated expressway in front of rescue workers.
Rescue attempt ends in dramatic expressway plunge
Around 9:35 p.m. on 26 December, passersby reported a disoriented man walking back and forth on the Sirat Expressway near Rama 9 Road, raising immediate concern. A rescue team from Makkasan police and security agencies rushed to the scene to assist him. As they approached, the man suddenly jumped from the elevated roadway onto the parallel road below.
Severe injuries and mystery over victim’s identity
The fall from several meters caused severe injuries, but the man was still conscious when rescuers reached him. He was taken urgently to Rajavithi Hospital, where he received intensive treatment and remained in serious condition. Police found no identification documents on him, but he was carrying a significant amount of cash.
Large sums in foreign and local currency discovered
During a search of his belongings, officers found 5,500 VAE dirham in cash, the equivalent of about 1,500 US dollars or 1,400 euros. He was also carrying 10,400 Thai baht, roughly 260 euros. Investigators said the unusual combination of currencies suggested a longer stay in Thailand or a journey in progress.
Police investigation focuses on identity and motive

Officers from Makkasan police reviewed surveillance camera footage from the expressway authority to trace the man’s movements before the jump. They called on drivers who witnessed the incident to contact the Makkasan police station hotline with any information.
