PATONG, THAILAND – A foreign couple has sparked massive outrage on Patong Beach after they skipped out on a food bill at a street stall and then taunted the Thai vendor with extremely disrespectful gestures and insulted witnesses.
Tourists Dine and Dash at Food Stall
A video circulating on social media shows a foreign couple at a street food stall in the popular tourist area of Patong. The two tourists ate their meal but then refused to pay the amount due to the vendor.
When the Thai vendor confronted the pair about the missing payment, the situation escalated in front of onlookers. Instead of settling the bill, the male tourist returned to the stall and heavily harassed the hard-working man.
Disgusting Gestures Toward Thai Vendor
The man made crude gestures toward the vendor, which witnesses interpreted as blowing his nose or spitting saliva. Thai internet users on social networks described the behavior as extremely rude and completely unacceptable.
The female companion also showed the middle finger to onlookers and the camera, before the pair nonchalantly disappeared from the scene. This disrespectful conduct triggered a wave of indignation among locals and other tourists.
Online Community Demands Harsh Consequences
The footage spread like wildfire across Thai social media and drew widespread condemnation. Many users labeled the tourists as
“trashy”
and demanded that the two learn a lesson.
One widely shared post even called for slapping the couple a few times on behalf of those affected –
“slap them a couple times.”
The frustration over the lack of respect for local small business owners is clearly running deep among many citizens in Phuket.

Many Thais link the incident to the country’s current visa-free policy and fear for the reputation of Thai hospitality. They urge the police to intervene quickly to stop such exceptions to the otherwise peaceful tourism industry.
