SRI RACHA, THAILAND – A young foreign motorcyclist was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash on a sharp curve in Sri Racha early Friday morning.
Early-morning crash on rural road
The accident occurred at about 6.20 a.m. on the Huay Yai Phrom–Na Phrao Road near the entrance to Soi Lung Term, according to Sri Racha police. Officers said no other vehicles were involved and classified the incident as a single-vehicle crash.
CCTV shows loss of control in sharp curve
CCTV footage showed the motorcycle approaching the curve at high speed before starting to wobble just before entering the bend. The bike then overturned and slid several metres along the road surface before crashing into a power line installation at the roadside.
Rider critically injured and unidentified
Rescue workers from the Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Foundation, emergency doctors from Phyathai Sri Racha Hospital and local police arrived shortly after the emergency call. A heavily damaged white-and-black GPX Diamond motorcycle was found next to the power pole.
The unconscious rider, believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, suffered severe head and facial injuries with heavy bleeding, as well as multiple abrasions across his body. No identification or travel documents were found, and rescuers confirmed he was a foreign national of unknown nationality.
The man was given first aid at the scene before being transported in critical condition to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
Witnesses describe very high speed
Several local residents told police the rider had been travelling alone. One witness said he heard the motorcycle approaching at high speed, followed moments later by a loud impact.
A village security guard on duty at the time described the incident to The Pattaya News:
“I was writing a report in the guard booth when I heard a motorcycle racing towards us with its engine revving. Shortly afterwards there was a huge bang. When I ran outside, villagers had already gathered. The rider was lying motionless on the road. We called out to him and shook him gently, but he did not respond, only his feet twitched. We did not move him so as not to worsen his injuries. He was clearly going very fast, and this curve is dangerous.”
said the village security guard.
Police document scene and review footage
Officers from the Sri Racha Police Station documented the crash site, took photographs, interviewed witnesses and reviewed the CCTV recordings. Based on initial findings, the case was being handled as a single-vehicle accident under standard procedures.
Authorities renew warnings over dangerous curves
Authorities used the crash to again urge motorcyclists to exercise greater caution, especially on sharp bends and during the early morning hours when visibility is often reduced. Riders were reminded to strictly observe speed limits and adjust their driving to road and weather conditions.
Officials highlighted that excessive speed in curves greatly increases the risk of accidents, that early-morning conditions can mean limited visibility and damp road surfaces, and that protective clothing and defensive riding are crucial to reducing the severity of injuries.
