Flower Vendor Killed on Sukhumvit Road

Motorcyclist hit by car and run over by trailer truck near Sri Racha university

SRI RACHA, THAILAND – A 55-year-old mobile flower vendor was killed on February 26 on Sukhumvit Road towards Pattaya after his motorcycle was hit by a car and then run over by a trailer truck.

Crash sequence on Sukhumvit Road

Emergency responders stated that the crash occurred at around 8.45 a.m. on an elevated stretch of Sukhumvit Road near a university in the Thung Sukhla subdistrict. A grey MG sedan was travelling down from a bridge when it collided with the rear of a black Yamaha motorcycle.

The motorcycle, loaded with flower garlands and vegetables, flipped over from the impact and came to rest on the roadway. Moments later, a following trailer truck struck both the bike and its rider.

Victim and first rescue efforts

At the scene, members of the Sawang Prateep Sri Racha Rescue Unit found the Yamaha in the third traffic lane. Vegetable bundles and flower garlands were scattered across the road.

The rider was identified as Mr. Son Dokpikul, 55, who usually sold his goods at construction sites. He lay unconscious beside his motorcycle with severe abrasions and apparent broken legs, and despite immediate resuscitation efforts, he died shortly afterwards from his injuries.

Condition of driver and police statements

The MG sedan showed clear signs of a rear-end impact, including a broken side mirror and vegetable remains on the hood. The driver, Ms. Nilubon Watthanaphan, 55, was in shock but stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

She told officers from Laem Chabang Police Station that she had been on her way to work in Banglamung district. According to police, she said she had not noticed the motorcycle in time while driving down from the bridge and was unsure whether her car had struck the bike or whether it had moved into her lane before the following trailer truck ran over it.

Investigations and next steps by authorities

Police summoned Ms. Nilubon for further questioning in order to determine the exact cause of the crash and any contributing factors. Investigators planned to use her statement, dashcam footage and technical examinations in their analysis.

The body of Mr. Son was taken to Laem Chabang Hospital, where a formal autopsy was to clarify the precise cause of death. At the same time, authorities were contacting his relatives so that traditional religious funeral rites could be arranged.

Morning traffic tragedy

A man on his way to work, carrying flowers and vegetables, was fatally injured within seconds on a busy commuter route. The incident raised questions among locals about safety on Sukhumvit Road.

Residents were left wondering whether inattention while leaving the bridge, the actions of the truck driver, or the conditions on this stretch of road had played the decisive role. The case added to ongoing concerns over traffic safety in the region.
