BANGKOK, THAILAND – A 20-year-old Sri Lankan citizen was arrested on May 31 at Suvarnabhumi Airport for attempting to fly to London with a fake Canadian passport, according to immigration officials. The arrest prompted a nationwide police raid targeting transnational document and smuggling crime.

Immigration officials were alerted by Thai Airways staff at Gate C5 around noon on May 31. A passenger was acting suspiciously and drawing attention.
The individual was scheduled to travel to London Heathrow on flight TG916. During checks, a Canadian passport was presented which was later identified as a forgery.

Investigators determined that the apprehended man had entered Thailand using a genuine Sri Lankan passport. He was identified solely as Mr. K, aged 20.
He also presented return travel documents for a journey via Mumbai back to Colombo. These documents confirmed his initial entry into Thailand with the Sri Lankan passport.

During an examination of immigration records, officers discovered that the identity on the forged Canadian passport had previously entered Thailand and was still within the country. This led to a significant development in the investigation.
Immigration officials later informed staff at Don Mueang Airport. A man using the same passport name was planning to depart on flight AK887 to Kuala Lumpur.
