BANGKOK, THAILAND – Former prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra reported a significantly reduced fortune of 11.3 billion baht when she left office, according to new disclosures by the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
Sharp decline in reported wealth
The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) said the combined assets of Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her husband totalled 11.3 billion baht when she stepped down in August last year, down from 14 billion baht declared at the start of her term in August 2024. Of the latest total, 11.23 billion baht were attributed to Paetongtarn, 86.7 million baht to her husband Pitaka Suksawat, and 130,693 baht to their two children, aged five and two.
Diversified portfolio from cash to luxury goods
The former premier’s assets were spread across cash holdings, accounts, property and high-end collectibles. The declaration listed 7.2 million baht in cash and 1.06 billion baht across 26 bank accounts, while the largest single category consisted of investments worth 8.35 billion baht. Her portfolio also included 12 land plots valued at 725 million baht and buildings and structures worth 168.6 million baht.
Land, vehicles and overseas rights
Paetongtarn reported 23 vehicles with a combined value of 66.8 million baht, alongside rights and concessions in six items totalling 425 million baht. These rights included long-term apartment leases in London, while a further 419 million baht in other assets comprised gold bars, 75 watches, luxury handbags, jewellery, collectibles and clothing.
Heavy debts unchanged since earlier filing
In addition to the extensive assets, Paetongtarn and her husband declared liabilities of 4.4 billion baht, unchanged from their previous report. According to the disclosure, most of these debts stemmed from debentures used to purchase shares from her mother, brother and other relatives.
Debts highlighted in earlier censure debate
These obligations had already been raised during a censure debate against the Paetongtarn-led government in early 2025. The newly released NACC statement indicated that no repayments had yet been made on these debts, despite the earlier scrutiny.
Income and expenses of the former first family
Paetongtarn declared an annual income of 20.9 million baht and yearly expenses of 58.2 million baht. Her husband Pitaka Suksawat reported separate assets of 86.7 million baht, liabilities of 1.18 million baht and an annual income of 4.9 million baht.
Disclosure tied to transparency rules
The asset declaration was submitted under legal transparency requirements that oblige political office holders to reveal their financial status when leaving office. The NACC on Wednesday released the data of several former office holders, including the former premier.
Constitutional Court ruling ended premiership
Paetongtarn had been temporarily suspended from her duties as prime minister by the Constitutional Court on 1 July of the previous year. The court later ruled that her handling of a controversial phone call with former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen constituted an ethical violation.
On 29 August 2025 the Constitutional Court formally ordered her removal from office. The latest asset declaration marked the official conclusion of her tenure as head of government.
