PHUKET, THAILAND – A planned marriage proposal at the EDC Thailand 2026 music festival in Phuket was derailed after a diamond ring and wallet were stolen in the crowd.
Theft in front of festival main stage
A visitor identified as Golf reported that his diamond engagement ring and wallet were taken while he stood in a dense crowd near the stage at EDC Thailand 2026 in Phuket. On 18 January 2026, Facebook user Acare Alice posted about the incident, sharing three photos showing the ring and the missing wallet. She wrote that her boyfriend had been robbed during the festival in one of Thailand’s major tourist destinations.
Engraved ring and luxury wallet missing
According to the post, the stolen ring carried the engraving “Acare & Golf”. The thief also took a Louis Vuitton wallet during the incident on the festival grounds. Golf told reporters that he and his girlfriend had travelled from Chiang Mai and arrived at the venue at around 9 p.m.
Credit card charged for about 300,000 baht
While they were in the crowd, Golf suddenly received multiple alerts from his banking app. When he checked, he discovered that his credit card had already been used for transactions worth around 300,000 baht. He then inspected the small bag he wore on his chest, noticed the zipper was open and realized the wallet was gone.
IDs, cash and engagement ring in stolen wallet
Golf said the missing wallet had contained both his and his girlfriend’s national ID cards, his driver’s licence and a diamond ring valued at about 300,000 baht. It also held 2,500 baht in cash and several credit cards. He filed a report at Cherng Talay Police Station, where officers told him such cases were difficult to solve unless the ring appeared in a shop or pawnshop that could provide a lead to the thief.
Proposal planned in festival “Proposal Zone”
Golf stated that he had intentionally brought the ring to the festival because there was a designated “Proposal Zone” for marriage proposals. He had planned to surprise his girlfriend there, but the theft occurred before he could ask the question.
“The ring and the documents are very important to me,”
said Golf, the theft victim.
Public appeal to jewelers and pawnshops
In her Facebook post, Acare Alice also appealed to jewelry stores and pawnshops in Phuket and nearby provinces. She asked them to contact the police or reach out to her directly if anyone tried to sell a ring matching the description. The post included a phone number and the hashtags #edcthailand2026 and #edcthailand.
Strong support on social media
The appeal spread quickly across social networks, with many users sharing the post. Numerous commenters offered words of encouragement, expressing hope that the couple would recover the ring and their documents. The incident raised questions online about safety at large events and the responsibilities of organizers, authorities and visitors at major festivals.
