JOMTIEN, THAILAND – A 37-year-old Dutch man died in the early hours of 14 March after a fall at a high-rise condominium in Jomtien, prompting an investigation into whether it was an accident or suicide.
Response shortly after midnight
At about 00:10 a.m., Pol. Lt. Aniruj Chehro, deputy investigator at Pattaya City Police Station, received a report of a fatal fall at a condominium in Jomtien. He informed his superior, Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyoo, and went to the scene with officers and volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya Rescue Foundation.
Emergency responders arrived at the building soon after the alert. They began securing the area while rescue volunteers checked the victim’s condition.
Body found on fifth-floor pool deck
The incident occurred in a 31-storey condo building with a rooftop area. The deceased was not found on the upper levels but on the pool and relaxation deck on the fifth floor.
His identity was established as Mr. Nicky, a 37-year-old Dutch national. Rescue workers could only confirm that he was already dead at the scene.
Witness reports loud noise before discovery
A building technician at the condo, who requested anonymity, told police he had heard a loud bang at the time of the incident. Shortly afterwards, a resident drew his attention to what had happened.
The technician immediately notified rescue services and the police. His account was included in the witness interviews as part of the ongoing investigation.
Origin of the victim in the building initially unclear
Officers were at first unable to determine either the victim’s unit or the floor from which he had fallen. The condo management was contacted to compare and verify resident records.
At the same time, investigators ordered a review of all CCTV footage in the building. The aim was to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the fall.
Investigators weigh accident or suicide
During the initial response, it remained unclear whether the death resulted from an accident or suicide. Police cordoned off the area, documented the location where the body was found and collected physical evidence.
Whether any other individuals were involved formed part of the continuing investigation. Police did not initially comment on possible motives or background circumstances.
Autopsy to determine cause of death
Investigators instructed rescue personnel to transfer the body to the Police Hospital in Bangkok for a full autopsy. The forensic report was expected to clarify the medical cause of death and form the basis for any further legal steps.
At the time of reporting, the autopsy findings were not yet available. Police stated they would provide an update once the results had been received.
Second fatal fall in the region within a week
The case was the second fatal incident of this kind in the Pattaya area within a few days. According to reports, two days earlier a German man had also died after a fall from a condo in the Pattaya area.
Authorities were not actively examining any connection between the two deaths. Both cases were being handled as separate investigations.
