PATTAYA, THAILAND – A heavily intoxicated construction worker collided with a sharp corrugated metal fence and suffered serious cuts in a late-night incident near a karaoke venue.
Worker found badly injured on Pattaya street
According to the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Foundation, the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. in Soi Phatthana 4, where a report was received about a heavily bleeding man lying on the road in front of a karaoke bar. Rescue workers found 43-year-old Rat Pholphan covered in blood, with several deep lacerations on his body, and so intoxicated that he could barely speak.
Bystanders provide first aid before hospital transfer
Employees of the karaoke venue and passersby had already begun initial first aid before the rescue team arrived. The emergency crew took over stabilizing the injured man and transported him immediately to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Rescuers classified his injuries as serious but not life-threatening, and said he received emergency treatment and was then in stable condition.
Victim says he stumbled into sharp metal fence
The injured man told rescuers he had consumed large amounts of alcohol in the karaoke bar before setting off on foot toward his nearby workers’ camp.
“I started staggering in my condition and walked into a sharp corrugated metal sheet that was being used there as a temporary fence,”
said Rat Pholphan, injured construction worker. He stated that he suffered severe cuts, then managed to drag himself back to the entrance of the karaoke bar, where he called for help.
Friends and bar staff rule out foul play
Friends from the construction workers’ camp confirmed that Rat Pholphan drank heavily on a regular basis and often lost control when drunk.
“There was no dispute and no attack,”
said friends from the workers’ camp. Staff at the karaoke venue also said the man had left the bar shortly before the incident in good spirits and had settled his bill properly.
“He came back shortly afterwards, covered in blood, and told us he had walked into the metal sheet,”
said staff at the karaoke bar.
Police treat case as accident, highlight ongoing risks
Police were informed of the incident and, based on current information, regarded it as a pure accident, with no criminal charges expected. The case again drew attention to the dangers posed by sharp, temporary construction fences and alcohol consumption in public areas. The listed risks included increased likelihood of injury from unsecured corrugated metal fencing, a higher risk of falls when heavily intoxicated at night, and more difficult first aid in cases of severe blood loss.
Recovery continues, further steps unclear
Rat Pholphan continued to recover in hospital from his injuries. Further measures by the authorities were not initially known.
