PATTAYA, THAILAND – In the early hours of 12 October 2025, motorists discovered a black MG pickup stopped in the centre of an intersection in North Pattaya; the vehicle did not move even after the traffic signal turned green.
Incident
Around 03:30 local time other drivers noticed the stationary pickup and, fearing a medical emergency, alerted Pattaya City police. When officers arrived within minutes they found the driver unresponsive and the vehicle blocking the junction.
Police response
Police and passers‑by knocked on the windows and called to rouse the man for more than 20 minutes before he finally came to. Those on scene described the situation as both surreal and dangerous given the potential for a serious collision.
Condition and arrest
Officers reported that the roughly 30–35‑year‑old driver was disoriented and emitted a strong smell of alcohol. Multiple beer bottles were found inside the vehicle. The man was unable to stand steadily or answer basic questions and could not provide his identity. Police removed him from the vehicle, arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence and took him to Pattaya City police station.
Legal consequences
Thai authorities maintain a strict stance on drink‑driving. The suspect now faces potential fines, a licence suspension and possibly imprisonment if charged and convicted under Thailand’s traffic and criminal laws.

Authorities say the incident could easily have ended in disaster had the driver remained awake and in control of the vehicle.
