KRABI, THAILAND – Authorities in southern Thailand investigated a deadly tourist boat collision off the Phi Phi Islands after the speedboat driver tested positive for illegal drugs.
Driver arrested after positive drug screening
Police arrested Mr Suriya under a court-issued warrant after his drug screening returned a positive result. According to the Koh-Phi-Phi police, he had been under the influence of methamphetamine while operating the vessel. He now faced charges of negligent homicide and consumption of a Category 1 narcotic.

The crash occurred in waters near the Phi-Phi Islands, when the tourist speedboat collided head-on with a local fishing boat.
