PATTAYA, THAILAND – The governor of Chonburi inspected a Songkran service point on Sukhumvit Road in Banglamung to strengthen safety and support for travelers after several recent accidents.
Checkpoint inspection in South Pattaya
Chonburi governor Naris Niramaiwong visited Banglamung district together with Vice Governor Isra Charoenchasri to review a public service point for the Songkran Festival 2026. The inspection took place at the checkpoint in front of the Big C South Pattaya on Sukhumvit Road, a major traffic route for locals and tourists.
Authorities said the visit was prompted by multiple road accidents in recent days in the surrounding area. They called on residents and visitors to exercise strict caution and comply with all traffic regulations during the holiday period.
Broad support from authorities and rescue services
The delegation was received by local officials, including Banglamung district chief Anusak Piriyomron and the head of the Pattaya City Police Station, Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu. Also present were Dr. Wichai Thanasophon, director of Pattaya Padmakun Hospital, and representatives of government agencies.
Community leaders such as Kamnan and village headmen joined health officials and volunteer rescue teams at the site. Their presence underlined the coordinated effort to respond quickly to incidents during the busy Songkran travel period.
Goal: Smooth assistance and higher safety during Songkran
According to provincial authorities, the visit was intended to check the readiness of service facilities and secure procedures for the holidays. The service point was set up to support travelers and increase safety for residents and visitors during the festival.
Officials said the checkpoint on Sukhumvit Road is expected to ease the burden on emergency services by offering immediate assistance. It is also meant to serve as a visible reminder to drivers to follow traffic laws and slow down in congested areas.
Service point operating from 10 to 16 April
Governor Naris stated that the public service point in South Pattaya would operate from 10 to 16 April 2026 and play a central role during the Songkran travel period. He stressed that such contact points are designed to reduce accidents and enable rapid support along heavily used routes.
Officials highlighted that the timing covers the peak days of holiday travel. They said staff would remain on duty around the clock to respond to emergencies and guide motorists.
Recent accident toll seen as warning sign
According to the governor, three road accidents occurred in the area over the past three to four days. Two people were killed and three others were injured, which the province saw as underlining the need for strict safety measures.
Authorities cited these figures as a warning signal ahead of the festival. They said the incidents showed how quickly celebrations could turn tragic if drivers ignored basic rules.
Coordination on land and at sea, including island routes
The province of Chonburi said it had coordinated with all relevant agencies to set up service points both on land and on the water. These measures also cover key tourist destinations such as Koh Larn and Koh Sichang, which are expected to be particularly busy during Songkran.
Officials said land checkpoints and maritime support units would work together to manage flows of visitors to the islands. The aim is to ensure that help is available not only on main roads but also along popular sea routes.
Governor’s appeal: No drinking, no driving while fatigued
The governor urged the public to strictly follow a clear principle:
“Do not drink and drive, do not drive when you are tired.”

He also recommended planning journeys in advance, checking vehicles and personal fitness to drive, and driving with particular care. In addition, he called on motorists to obey traffic rules and follow the instructions of officers stationed at checkpoints.
