PATTAYA, THAILAND – A 35-year-old Chinese real estate agent was allegedly threatened with scissors, bound with tape and robbed by a supposed homebuyer in Pattaya in the early hours of Monday.
Agent attacked after late-night property viewing
According to police, Yang Wang, a Chinese national legally working as a property seller in Pattaya, had arranged to meet a man who introduced himself as Mr. Gong, a 30-year-old Chinese citizen. The pair had already been in contact about a possible house purchase, and on the evening of 11 January she showed him a property before driving the prospective buyer back in her own car.
Threat with scissors and binding inside the car
While driving along Phatthanakan 4 Road in Nongprue subdistrict, the situation reportedly changed abruptly. The man suddenly pulled out a pair of scissors, pressed them into her waist and ordered her to keep driving, according to the victim’s account. He directed her to the rear area of a housing project, told her to stop, forced her onto the back seat and used tape to fix her upper body and arms, leaving her only limited freedom of movement.
Phone stolen and funds transferred via WeChat
The assailant allegedly took her Huawei smartphone, valued at around 20,000 baht, and then forced her to reveal the password for her WeChat payment function. Using the app, he transferred 6,996 Chinese yuan, equivalent to about 31,482 baht, from her account, bringing the total value of the haul to more than 50,000 baht, according to police.
Crash during escape attempt and risky flight to safety
After the robbery, the man tried to flee in the victim’s car. A passing resident then approached the vehicle and pointed out that parking was prohibited in that spot, apparently startling the driver, who drove off in haste. Still bound with tape, the woman tried to disrupt the suspect and prevent him from getting away, causing the car to go out of control and crash heavily into a concrete wall.
Victim escapes; suspect flees on foot
Amid the confusion, the woman managed to free herself from the badly damaged car despite the tape around her body. She fled with the tape still wrapped around her torso and called for help nearby. Realising the vehicle was no longer drivable, the suspect jumped out and ran off into the darkness on foot.
Police open armed robbery investigation
At around 12:06 a.m. on 12 January 2026, the victim reported the incident at Nongprue Police Station. Her statement was taken through an interpreter and recorded by Pol Lt Thanakrit Burapha Jaihan, the deputy investigation inspector. She gave detailed information on the man’s appearance, name and the location where he had asked to be picked up for the property viewing, and investigators said a 30-year-old Chinese suspect had been identified.
“We have identified the person and are tracking him. An arrest is expected shortly.”
said investigators.
Appeal for witnesses in Nongprue area
Police in Nongprue called on the public for assistance in locating the fugitive 30-year-old Chinese man. Witnesses to the incident or anyone with relevant information were urged to contact Nongprue Police Station directly.
