KANCHANABURI, Thailand – A car smashed into a daycare centre on Friday, injuring 13 people as children slept during naptime.
The vehicle slammed into the Ban Nong Song Ton early childhood development centre in Mueang district. Rescue workers initially reported around ten injured before Thai PBS put the number at thirteen.
Accident during children’s naptime
The crash happened on Friday morning in Kanchanaburi province. The Khun Rattanavudh Foundation said a car suddenly drove into the facility’s grounds and into the building. Many small children were inside, with several lying down for their midday nap.
The centre looks after preschool children from the Kanchanaburi area. Authorities did not say how many kids were at the daycare when the crash happened. Thai PBS reported the number of injured has now climbed to thirteen, including several children.
Rescue teams rush to the scene
Multiple rescue teams raced to the site after the crash. Helpers from the Khun Rattanavudh Foundation and the Pitak Kan Foundation, along with emergency medics, treated the injured at the scene. Initial reports said victims were taken to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital in Kanchanaburi.
Rescue organisations called on drivers in the area to clear the way for emergency vehicles so the injured could reach hospital quickly. How many people are seriously hurt was not immediately clear. There were no details on the victims’ conditions on Friday.
Police investigate the cause
The cause of the crash remains unknown. Police have opened an investigation and secured evidence at the scene. Authorities gave no information about the driver of the car.
Investigators will determine whether a technical defect, driver error, or a medical issue caused the crash. Officials said they would release more information once it becomes available.
