UDON THANI, THAILAND – A missing-person case involving a British man unsettled the northeastern province of Udon Thani as police opened an investigation and his Thai wife appealed publicly for help.
British husband vanished after late November sighting
The missing man was identified as 57-year-old Briton Lee Steven, whose Thai wife Nipaporn reported him missing to local police. She said he was last seen on 27 November 2024, after which all phone calls went unanswered and no trace of him was found.
Officers at the Udon Thani police station registered her complaint and said they were checking every lead. The case drew wider attention after she turned to the public out of desperation.
Last known destination: Nam Som Waterfall
According to the current state of the investigation, Steven’s last known destination was the Nam Som Waterfall in Nam Som district. It remained unclear what he planned to do there or whether he ever actually reached the waterfall.
Police teams searched the area and questioned potential witnesses.
“We followed every lead and examined the man’s last known movements,”
said a police spokesman.
Emotional appeal and call for public assistance
In an emotional plea, Nipaporn asked anyone who might have seen her husband to come forward, stressing that even the smallest piece of information could be crucial. Police released a physical description and appealed to residents for assistance in locating him.
Authorities said the case highlighted the difficulties that arise when foreigners disappear in remote areas. Thai agencies stated that they worked closely with the respective embassies in such situations.
Missing foreigners a recurring challenge
Reports of missing persons, particularly foreigners, were not uncommon in Thailand. Such cases often turned out to be misunderstandings, accidents in isolated regions or voluntary disappearances.
Police were under pressure in these investigations to act quickly and transparently so that families were not left in uncertainty. The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Bangkok was likely already informed, according to the report.

The case served as a warning for foreign visitors to always share their travel plans with trusted contacts and keep in regular communication. In an emergency, relatives were advised to immediately notify the local police and the relevant embassy.
