PATTAYA, THAILAND – Multiple Thai agencies carried out a sweeping safety inspection at Bali Hai Pier to protect thousands of tourists using the busy ferry terminal.
All agencies at one table – united for more safety
A broad alliance of authorities assembled at Bali Hai Pier on 27 March 2026. Teams from Pattaya City Enforcement, the Pattaya Marine Department, the Water Police, Pattaya Police Station and the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center were all on site.
Together they conducted a coordinated safety inspection of the pier and passenger ferries. The aim was to check operational readiness and raise safety standards across the entire facility, which is one of the region’s most important transport hubs.
“The safety of passengers is the top priority.”
said deployment forces at the scene, underscoring the purpose of the joint operation.
What exactly was inspected
Inspectors left nothing out during the operation. They focused on the condition of the ferry boats: seaworthiness of the vessels, functioning engines and the completeness of safety equipment on board.
They also examined conditions along the pier itself. Questions included whether the landing stage was safe and whether there were danger spots for passengers when boarding and disembarking.
Another key element of the inspection was the boat operators. Officials checked whether captains and their crews knew and complied with all applicable regulations governing their work.
Reminder of the rules: no compromises on safety
Operators and boat drivers were firmly reminded of their obligations on site. Maritime safety rules had to be observed strictly and without exception, the authorities stressed.
“We do not tolerate negligence.”
said the authorities, adding that the checks were intended to have a lasting impact rather than serve as a one-off action.
Regular inspections were now to become standard practice. Only in this way, officials argued, could tourist confidence in the safety of ferry services be strengthened in the long term.
Why the inspection mattered now
The timing of the inspection was not coincidental. The tourism season in Pattaya was in full swing, and every day large numbers of visitors flooded into Bali Hai Pier.
Many of them were heading to nearby resort islands such as Koh Larn off the coast, with ferries often filled to capacity. In these conditions, strict adherence to safety standards was seen as all the more important.
Authorities said they wanted to prevent incidents during the high season, when heavy passenger volumes put additional pressure on boats and infrastructure.
Strengthening tourist confidence
Another central goal of the operation was to reinforce the confidence of tourists in ferry safety. International visitors expected not only beautiful beaches in Thailand, but also reliable and safe means of transport.
“When people see that inspections are taking place, they feel safer.”
said a staff member on site, noting that the visible presence of agencies was meant to send a reassuring signal.
The tourism industry in Pattaya depended heavily on this trust. A single serious incident, officials warned, could cause lasting damage to the region’s image.
Conclusion of the safety offensive
The large-scale inspection at Bali Hai Pier was intended as a clear signal. Thai authorities showed they were taking safety in ferry transport seriously and were ready to act.
Close cooperation between city administration, marine units, police and port authorities demonstrated that all sides were pulling in the same direction. For tourists, the message was that they could set off for the islands with greater peace of mind.
According to officials, the ferries had been checked, captains instructed and the eye of the authorities would remain vigilant over the pier in the future.
