SURAT THANI, THAILAND – A brutal murder in Surat Thani province exposes a deceitful scam. 61-year-old Wichit Chompong was found dead with gunshot wounds in a plantation.

The victim’s sister, 56-year-old Preeda, discovered her brother’s body in a plantation in Son Sak district. Wichit had gunshot wounds and lay lifeless on the roadside.
Investigators found his mobile phone next to the body, severely damaged. Police have launched an investigation into this brutal case.

Authorities suspect a so-called romance scam involving artificial intelligence. Wichit reportedly maintained an online relationship with a woman named Ploy.
Despite his family warning him about the AI-generated profile pictures, he regularly transferred money. The payments, however, went not to the woman but to the account of a man named Sunthon.
Verdächtiges Verhalten vor der Tat
On the evening of his death, Wichit left home unusually late, supposedly to deliver fuel. His sister Preeda was puzzled by this nighttime trip, as he rarely went out after dark.
Wichit had previously been involved in illegal weapons and drug deals but recently ran a shrimp farm. Preeda followed her brother out of concern and made the horrific discovery.
Hauptverdächtige bestreiten die Tat
Police are focusing on housekeeper Fern and her boyfriend Sunthon as main suspects. Fern is alleged to have connected the victim with the fictitious Ploy.
While Fern denies any involvement, a witness claims to have seen her with Wichit on the day of the murder. The suspect refused to speak to reporters and left the police station without a word.

A man named Dam reported an almost identical experience with suspect Fern. He was also introduced to a woman and transferred money to Sunthon’s account.
Dam later suspected that his online acquaintance was also an AI-generated profile. The public is now calling for a thorough examination of all digital data from the suspects.
