Suspect, 20, surrenders after hospital treatment for stomach wound

PATTAYA, Thailand – A 20-year-old Chinese man was found dead in a rented room in Na Jomtien early Saturday. Police are probing a knife fight that left another man injured.

The body of Chao Ke was discovered around 7:30 am in a three-storey accommodation in Na Jomtien, Sattahip district. Officers found him lying near the foot of the bed on the ground floor. He suffered multiple injuries believed to be from a sharp object.

Initial reports said Chao suffered several injuries from a sharp object. He was reportedly the son of a luxury yacht owner.

His girlfriend Kanyarat, 21, was also in the room. She worked for a yacht company and had rented the room.

Kanyarat was taken to Wat Yan Sangwararam Hospital with injuries. Authorities said she appeared to be in shock.

She initially told investigators that Chao was just an acquaintance. She refused to give details and asked to contact her boyfriend.

Suspect turns himself in after treatment

Thanachot Sripaenphet, 20, was brought to hospital by his parents. He later surrendered to police while being treated for a stomach wound.

The second-year vocational school student gave his account of the fight. He said he had been out with friends before returning to his girlfriend’s room to change and shower.

When he arrived, the bathroom door was locked from inside. After Kanyarat opened it, he went straight in and found Chao hiding there.

Thanachot said a weapon in the room played a part in the confrontation. He claimed he was injured himself and could not remember exactly how Chao died.

He drove away from the scene because he thought no one would understand. Later he contacted his mother and decided to surrender.

Police investigate evidence and statements

Officers plan to question all parties after medical treatment. The knife and other traces from the room will undergo forensic examination.

Kanyarat’s mother Yaowarat Tanthikun, 45, said her daughter and Thanachot had been a couple for about a year. She said she knew nothing about any serious problems between them.
