NAN, THAILAND – The Nan River measured 6.43 metres at station N.1 on August 8, still below the bank edge. Governor Chainarong Wong Yai ordered checks and flood preparations.
Inspections began at 12.30pm at station N.1 on the Phatthana-Phak-Nuea Bridge. Authorities described the overall situation as normal but kept tracking the water level.
Governor leads inspection at bridge
Chainarong Wong Yai joined representatives from Mueang Nan district office, disaster prevention officials and the city administration at the site. If the situation changes, the responsible agencies will react in time, they said.
The governor personally oversaw the review of flood readiness in the urban area. Preparations for a further rise during the rainy season are already under way.
City builds sandbag defence lines
Nan city workers have stacked sandbags into protective lines at vulnerable spots. Water pumps stand ready for immediate use if heavy rain falls or the water level climbs.
The measures aim to reduce flood risk in the city centre. Authorities are gearing up for the peak of the flood season.
Riverbank between Nan and Fai Kaeo checked
The task force inspected the transition zone between Nan city and the Tambon Administrative Organization Fai Kaeo. Teams examined the stretch between Ban Nam Lom and Ban Hua Wiang Nuea for any extra protection needed along the banks.
For a further rise of the Nan River, authorities plan to deploy big bags. No numbers or exact placement locations were given.
Big bags shield Nan Hospital
Officials also monitored the placement of big bags around Nan Hospital. The area must be protected from the consequences of rising water, they said.
This ensures medical services for the public can continue. The hospital defences remain part of the ongoing flood preparation.
Authorities monitor water levels and rain
The province of Nan ordered all responsible agencies to keep a tight watch on water levels and rainfall amounts. Staff, equipment, machinery and flood protection gear must be ready at all times.
The provincial administration, district office, disaster prevention, city hall and local administrative organisations are coordinating their work. They will continuously assess developments and step in immediately if the water rises.
