CHIANG MAI, THAILAND – Doi Suthep-Pui National Park has temporarily closed Mae Sa Waterfall to visitors after flash floods triggered by relentless heavy rain.
Park officials shut the tourist area on August 7 at 2:25 PM. The water turned muddy and red.
Flash floods force immediate closure
The closure aims to protect visitor lives and property. Parks officials said the ban stays until conditions return to normal.
“The measure is to protect the lives and property of visitors,” said a park official.
Muddy red water signals danger
Heavy rain pounded the area for hours before the flash flood. Water ran thick with silt, turning the waterfall a murky red.
Park staff warned the unstable ground and fast currents pose serious risks. Even after rain stops, the area may stay hazardous.
Uncertain safety ahead
Officials said water in the Mae Sa area could remain cloudy and reddish even after the rain ends. The risk of new flooding from saturated soil remains high.
The closure blocks access to dangerous zones along the waterfall and access roads. Park guards will patrol to enforce the ban.
