CHIANG KHONG, THAILAND – Two armed robbers hit a gold shop inside a shopping mall on the evening of August 4, making off with gold weighing 184 baht. The damage is put at 13,036,400 baht.
Police believe the raiders may have crossed the border into an unspecified neighbouring country. The gold shop is located in a mall in Chiang Khong district.
184 baht of gold stolen from the shop
Initial checks found missing gold necklaces weighing a total of 64 baht and gold bracelets weighing 120 baht. Together that adds up to 184 baht of gold.
The weight is given in the Thai measurement for gold. The value of the loot was put at 13,036,400 baht.
Rented motorcycle left on the Mekong bank
The perpetrators are believed to have used a rented motorcycle for the heist. After the crime they parked the vehicle on the bank of the Mekong near the spot called Golden Mekong Giant Catfish.
Police are now checking the possible escape route. Based on evidence so far, the perpetrators may have then crossed the border into a neighbouring country.
