KARON, PHUKET – A fire destroyed a three-story building early on August 3, containing a hotel restaurant and spa. No one was injured.
The blaze tore through the property run by the Sugar Marina Hotel group at around 7am. It sits right next to the Beyond Kata Hotel.
Flames break out at 7am
Firefighters from the Karon municipality disaster protection and mitigation unit rushed to the scene with fire trucks and water tankers. They had the situation under control in roughly 45 minutes.
The fire did not spread to neighbouring buildings. No injuries or deaths were reported.
Restaurant and spa affected
On the ground floor was the KIRI Restaurant, where guests staying at the Sugar Marina Resort eat breakfast. The first floor housed another restaurant.
The top floor was used by the Pinewood Massage Onsen Spa. Both the restaurant and spa were gutted by the flames.
Cause remains unclear
The exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are not yet known. Authorities have started an investigation at the site.
Police and fire officials are working to determine what sparked the blaze. No further details are available at this stage.
