VIỆT YÊN, VIETNAM – A man narrowly escaped a fatal outcome after a bizarre toilet accident required emergency surgery.
The Failed Attempt in the “Little Room”
A 38-year-old Vietnamese man was rushed to Việt Yên General Hospital with severe pain, accompanied by family members. The entire bidet spray head had been inserted so deeply that it became lodged at the junction between the rectum and the large intestine.
Initially, the man and his family attempted to remove the object themselves. However, these efforts failed and only worsened the situation.
“One of the Most Difficult Cases I’ve Ever Had”
Dr. Trần Minh PhÆ°Æ¡ng, the hospital’s director and an oncology specialist, shared his experience on Facebook. “This is one of the most difficult cases I have ever encountered,” the physician stated.
An X-ray revealed the full extent of the problem. The spray head had a hard metal edge and a protruding lever for water regulation. This lever had insidiously become entangled with the intestinal wall.
Life Threat Due to Crude Self-Manipulation
Any further forceful attempt to extract the nozzle could have had catastrophic consequences. The lever could have torn the intestinal wall, leading to a perforation, severe internal bleeding, and an acute life-threatening situation.

The medical team deemed the case highly complex and abandoned the idea of retrieving the foreign body through the anus. The decision was made to proceed with an abdominal operation to carefully examine the internal organs and safely remove the object.
Two Hours to Salvation
After approximately two hours in the operating room, the nightmare concluded. Surgeons successfully removed the bidet spray head without causing a bowel perforation.
Doctors’ Urgent Appeal
Dr. PhÆ°Æ¡ng issued a stern warning against attempting to remove lodged foreign bodies from the anus oneself. The anus and rectum are extremely sensitive organs, and even a small mistake can cause a perforation.
In the worst-case scenario, a colostomy might have been necessary to divert stool temporarily or permanently through the abdominal wall. The clear message from the medics is: no embarrassing self-attempts, but immediately seek medical attention.
