BANGKOK, THAILAND – Officials face scrutiny as corruption and misconduct scandals continue to emerge within Thailand’s nightlife scene.

The ongoing investigation into official misconduct and scandals within Thailand’s nightlife has entered a new phase. In Phuket, two district chiefs are set to return to their posts following an inquiry. Meanwhile, the island’s provincial secretary has refused to cooperate with questioning.
In the case of provincial officials relocated to Bangkok, an initial decision has been made. The district chief of Mueang Phuket and his colleague from Kathu have apparently been able to refute the accusations leveled against them. Since no serious disciplinary violations were found, Naru-cha Khosawilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, has reinstated both to their original positions in Phuket. The investigation period concludes on June 24.

For officials against whom no evidence exists, a clear right applies. “When the investigation is concluded and no misconduct has been determined, they must be granted the right to return to their original position,” Naru-cha confirmed on June 22 at Government House.
The 30-day investigation period, which began on May 24, is thus nearing its end. Those found not guilty are to be reinstated without delay.

The situation is different for the provincial secretary of Phuket, who has persistently evaded investigators’ questions. Since his transfer to headquarters, he has taken two ten-day leave periods, making direct questioning impossible.
Authorities are now changing their approach and will require him to provide a written statement. Afterward, officials can finalize the dossier and decide whether further steps will follow.

Simultaneously, a raid in the province of Nakhon Pathom has caused alarm. On June 20, officers, as part of “Operation Check-in The Airport,” stormed an entertainment venue and discovered a disturbing scene.
Drugs were being consumed at the venue, e-cigarettes were seized, and minors under 20 years old were granted entry. The establishment did not even possess a valid operating permit.

The legal consequences now fall to the Governor of Nakhon Pathom. It is within his jurisdiction to order a forced closure, which is to be provisionally imposed for five years.
The closure is part of a new hardline stance against illegal clubs. The Director-General clarified that such violations will no longer be treated as routine cases but will be pursued with full determination.

However, the case runs deeper. The authorities’ meeting on Tuesday evaluated not only the lapses in youth protection but also possible criminal offenses of money laundering.
Suspected cases in this area will be forwarded to the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) for examination. The investigations are also looking into connections with influential individuals in the province.

As a direct consequence of the raid, the responsible district chief, along with the involved officials, was summoned to headquarters. Their transfer is intended to facilitate the unimpeded conduct of the ongoing investigations.
Authorities are demonstrating a firm stance even before a verdict is reached. It serves as a signal to all officials who cover up or overlook such abuses.

The decisive action follows a clear political line. Naru-cha cites the Prime Minister’s policy to combat corruption and announced a tougher approach against entertainment venues nationwide.
Going forward, decisive action will be taken against all officials involved in such violations. The Nakhon Pathom case thus marks only the beginning of a large-scale control offensive.
