BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has opened an investigation into allegations of manipulated contracts at Suvarnabhumi Airport, totaling nearly 75 million Baht.

On June 16, lawyer Sittra Biabungkerd presented a substantial volume of documents to the DSI. As the Secretary-General of the People’s Lawyer Team Foundation, he submitted detailed records including Line chats, project specifications, and procurement information. The allegations focus on internet systems and passenger drop-off facilities at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Biabungkerd has requested the investigation be treated as a formal criminal complaint should evidence of collusion surface.

A significant element of the complaint points to the involvement of a former deputy prime minister and a major news organization. It is alleged that these entities coordinated work for individuals currently under scrutiny. DSI Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Woranan Srilam officially received the documentation. The authority has not yet disclosed the names of the high-profile individuals or the media house implicated.

The projects in question amount to 74.9 million Baht, funded through the 2025 fiscal year and supplementary expenditures. The procurements encompass a broad range of items. These include i-PRO AI network cameras, FastLane systems, network upgrades, CCTV, security equipment, automated passport control gates, fire alarms, and speed measuring devices.

On June 19, DSI Director-General Police Major Yutthana Praedam initiated a direct referral of the case. He assigned it to the Bureau of Offenses Relating to Bids to State Agencies, a unit specializing in bid-rigging. Investigators are tasked with determining if any collusion occurred during the bidding process. If sufficient incriminating evidence is found, the case may be escalated to a formal special inquiry.

The DSI team has commenced reviewing the submitted materials. Officials are assessing whether the evidence substantiates the serious allegations and warrants upgrading the case to a special status. To date, there have been no findings, indictments, or arrests. The examination is ongoing, with results expected at any time.
