Several shots on the fourth floor
Hectic scenes broke out in the provincial administration building on the morning of June 17, 2026. Several loud shots were suddenly heard from the office of the military replacement director on the fourth floor. Officials and visitors fled the building in panic, fearing the worst. Colonel found lifeless in office
First responders found the lifeless body of Colonel Korwikanon, 59, the provincial military replacement director, who had been fatally shot in his office. The shooter, Lieutenant Colonel Chinnakorn, also 59, was already waiting at the scene. He still had the weapon in his possession and surrendered without resistance to the arriving officers.
Rage over transfer order
Initial interrogations revealed a clear motive. The perpetrator, a military replacement official from the Mueang Kalasin district, disagreed with an order to transfer him to the office in Kamalasai district. Angrily, he sought a conversation with his superior, Colonel Korwikanon. The exchange escalated fiercely until the lieutenant colonel, in his rage, drew the firearm he was carrying and fired.
Police collect evidence and witness statements
The shooter was immediately taken to the Mueang Kalasin police station and arrested. The forensic team began meticulous work securing all material evidence and interviewing witnesses. Investigators aim to reconstruct the exact course of events without any gaps. Subsequently, a detailed interrogation of the lieutenant colonel is expected to shed light on the background of the violent outburst.
Governor orders psychological support
The incident has caused deep shock among employees at the provincial administration building. Governor Suwan unambiguously instructed the responsible authorities to apply the law impartially. He also ordered accelerated psychological support for the officials and witnesses who had to witness the dramatic scenes. The perpetrator will now have to answer to investigators before charges are filed.
