UDON THANI, Thailand – A foreign couple is suspected of abandoning a newborn baby under a tree in Udon Thani, an incident that led to the infant’s death despite resuscitation efforts.

Three local boys discovered a lifeless infant, wrapped in a pink towel and covered with a blue cloth, beneath a rain tree on Soi Chan Charoen Suk. The children, aged 10 to 12, found the baby girl around 9:20 AM on June 10 while fishing in a nearby drainage canal. The infant was found to be a newborn.
Rescue workers immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and transported the child to Udon Thani Regional Hospital. Sadly, after more than eight hours, medical professionals were unable to save the newborn.

Investigators were led to the suspected couple through CCTV footage. The video showed a tall, white man with brown hair and a dark-skinned woman walking with a bundled infant through the soi. They paused outside a house by the canal for approximately three minutes before placing the baby under the tree.
The pair then departed via Soi Don Udom, heading towards Amphoe Road. Police are treating their actions as intentional abandonment, noting no apparent attempt to seek aid or return.

Colonel Patthanawong Chanphon directed a search of hotels, resorts, and guesthouses within a one-kilometer radius. No establishments had registered a couple accompanied by an infant. However, one hotel near the scene reported a relevant sighting: a foreign male inquiring about a room on the evening of June 8.
He reportedly declined a room due to the price of 1,400 Baht and subsequently left.

A breakthrough came with information from Nong Khai police. Officers located the couple at a well-known café in the province, this time in possession of a baby.
According to the police, the individuals are a 39-year-old European man and a 29-year-old American woman. Witnesses estimated the newborn to be about two weeks old, a timeline that significantly strengthens the suspicion regarding the deceased infant.

Border crossing records did not indicate any border passage by the pair.
