How Regan Kelly disappeared in Phuket
Regan Kelly, 28, went missing in the early hours of January 3, 2025, just days after arriving in Phuket with a friend. The last available CCTV footage showed him running after leaving a bar at the Mad Monkey Hotel.
His body was discovered by a watersports instructor around 10:00 AM. The finder noted that Kelly was naked except for one sock, a detail that has raised further questions for the family regarding the circumstances of his death.
Police suspect drowning, family doubts
The Thai police concluded their investigation by determining that Regan Kelly had drowned, officially listing this as the cause of his death. However, the family remains concerned and has not ruled out foul play, leading them to request an independent review of the investigation and improved access to information.

Laurie Blackall has drawn parallels to the case of Jordan Wright, 33, a former reality TV participant who was also found dead in Phuket. Wright was last seen on CCTV running before his body was discovered on March 14 in a drainage canal.
An inquest for Wright is scheduled later this year, which his family hopes will provide further clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death.
Politician and Foreign Office urge better communication
Claire Coutinho, the Member of Parliament for East Surrey, stated that bereaved families deserve clear information and compassionate handling, calling reports of inadequate support concerning. Her comments highlight the growing political pressure for improved care measures.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it had supported Regan’s family and was in contact with both the family and local authorities. The department emphasized that consulates strive to provide personalized support.
