Saudi Man Arrested at Phuket Airport

Ketamine found hidden in underwear after scanner alarm

PHUKET, THAILAND – A 28-year-old Saudi man was arrested at Phuket International Airport after a body scanner indicated irregularities, leading officials to discover ketamine capsules concealed in his underwear. The suspect had already checked in with Etihad Airways and surrendered two pieces of luggage, and is now in the custody of local police.

Arrest After Scanner Alarm

Authorities reported that the man, identified only as Mr. Safi, was stopped at the international departure terminal when a body scanner malfunctioned. Officials stated he had handed over two bags of luggage before the check. He was attempting to depart the country when airport screeners intervened.

Capsules Seized from Underwear

During a search, investigators found a white fabric pouch within the man’s underwear. This pouch contained 63 red and white capsules filled with a white powder. Subsequent tests confirmed the contents to be approximately 32 grams of ketamine. Two iPhones were also confiscated as evidence.

Charges for Drug Possession and Customs Violations

The individual faces charges for possession and attempted export of a controlled substance without authorization. He is also accused of violating customs laws dating back to 2017. According to official statements, he has been handed over to investigators at the Sakhu Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Police Aim to Halt Transit Smuggling

Police Colonel Salan Santisasanakul, head of the Sakhu Police, emphasized that Thai authorities remain vigilant to prevent the country from being used as a transit hub for international drug trafficking. Investigators are currently examining whether the arrested individual has connections to a larger smuggling network. The seized ketamine, classified as a Category 2 narcotic under Thai law, and the two iPhones are being held as evidence in the ongoing investigation at the Sakhu Police Station.
