Fake Passport Suspect Leads to Raid

Sri Lankan national apprehended at Suvarnabhumi Airport with fraudulent Canadian document, triggering nationwide crackdown on trafficking rings.

BANGKOK, THAILAND – A 20-year-old Sri Lankan citizen was arrested on May 31 at Suvarnabhumi Airport for attempting to fly to London with a fake Canadian passport, according to immigration officials. The arrest prompted a nationwide police raid targeting transnational document and smuggling crime.

Aufgefallen am Gate C5

Immigration officials were alerted by Thai Airways staff at Gate C5 around noon on May 31. A passenger was acting suspiciously and drawing attention.

The individual was scheduled to travel to London Heathrow on flight TG916. During checks, a Canadian passport was presented which was later identified as a forgery.

Identität und Einreise

Investigators determined that the apprehended man had entered Thailand using a genuine Sri Lankan passport. He was identified solely as Mr. K, aged 20.

He also presented return travel documents for a journey via Mumbai back to Colombo. These documents confirmed his initial entry into Thailand with the Sri Lankan passport.

Zweite Person auf Beobachtungsliste

During an examination of immigration records, officers discovered that the identity on the forged Canadian passport had previously entered Thailand and was still within the country. This led to a significant development in the investigation.

Immigration officials later informed staff at Don Mueang Airport. A man using the same passport name was planning to depart on flight AK887 to Kuala Lumpur.

Handy sichergestellt, Nachrichten mit Anweisungen

Investigators confiscated the arrested individual’s mobile phone. They reportedly found messages that allegedly contained instructions on how to respond to immigration officials.

These seized contents are now under intense review as authorities explore connections to facilitators and document suppliers.

Landesweite Razzia angeordnet

National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kitrat Phanphet ordered a nationwide operation to identify illegal foreigners and dismantle transnational criminal networks. The Immigration Bureau is leading the charge.

This operation is being overseen by the Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Boonyalak, and the Commander of Immigration Division 2, Pol. Maj. Gen. Kathathorn Kumthieng.

Festnahmen, Widerruf der Aufenthaltserlaubnis und weitere Schritte

Mr. K was arrested and faces charges for using a forged travel document. The residency permits for both suspects have been revoked, and they are currently in detention. Two individuals are now in custody.

Investigations are ongoing into the masterminds behind the operation, the manufacturers of the passports, and any other potential accomplices involved in the scheme. The probe aims to uncover the full extent of the criminal network.
