BANGKOK, THAILAND – Thai AirAsia will cut nearly one in three flights from May 2026 due to soaring fuel prices and a travel slump.

The budget airline will eliminate 30 percent of all connections in May and June. CEO Phairat Phornphatthanangkun confirmed the cuts bluntly, stating he had no other choice.
Kerosene costs have more than tripled. At the same time, demand collapses during the low season. This deadly mix forced the carrier to act.
India Flights Radically Cut
Booking hotlines are running hot. Flights to India are particularly affected. These routes are no longer profitable at current oil prices.
At Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, domestic services are also being reduced. Only Chiang Mai and Phuket will still be served directly. All other domestic destinations from Suvarnabhumi are suspended for now.
Don Mueang Remains a Bastion
A glimmer of hope remains: the old Don Mueang airport in Bangkok continues to operate. From there, Thai AirAsia still serves all routes.
However, frequencies will be thinned. There may be fewer flights on weekdays. This must suffice until the situation eases.
