LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – An 18-year-old suspect has been extradited from Dubai to London and faces court in connection with the death of Thai national Kamonnan Thiamphanit, whose body was found in a London flat in April 2024.
The Victim and the Discovery Circumstances
Kamonnan Thiamphanit, 27, was a Thai–Hong Kong dual national who moved to London in 2016 to study graphic design and later worked in property management. On the morning of 8 April 2024, police forced open the door of a townhouse in Stanhope Place, Bayswater, and found her dead. Authorities suspect a violent crime. The property, near Hyde Park, is estimated by real estate portals to be worth around £3.1 million.
Suspect Fled to Dubai and Was Extradited
Scotland Yard quickly identified Enzo Bettamio as a suspect. He was 17 at the time of the killing and is now 18. He left the UK shortly after Kamonnan’s death, and an international manhunt led to Dubai. Last Friday, Bettamio was transferred from the United Arab Emirates to London. On Saturday he appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court, confirming his name and date of birth but making no statement regarding the offence. The court ordered him remanded in custody; his next hearing at the Old Bailey is set for 28 April.
Two Unanswered Emergency Calls
On the evening of 7 April, a friend of Kamonnan called police twice – at 19:05 and 21:34 – unable to reach her and growing worried. Officers classified the case as a medium-priority missing person response and did not dispatch units immediately. More than 13 hours after the first call, officers finally reached the flat. The Metropolitan Police subsequently self-referred to the independent oversight body IOPC, which is now examining whether the officers’ actions on the night complied with regulations.
Neighbourhood Reports
Residents told media they heard unusual noises on the night of the incident. Police provided no further details. Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell thanked the family for their patience. Relatives are being supported by specialist officers. Whether witness statements from the neighbourhood will be used in the criminal proceedings remains part of the ongoing investigation.
IOPC Review and Further Proceedings
The IOPC is investigating whether the conduct of officers on the evening of 7 April was in line with regulations. Depending on the outcome, disciplinary measures may follow. A final assessment is pending. Kamonnan’s family has been informed of the case status since Bettamio’s arrest. The criminal trial at the Old Bailey is ongoing.
