Pattaya, Thailand – Two young women were killed early Sunday morning when their motorbike hit a closed rail barrier and they were then struck by a freight train at a level crossing in Huay Yai.
Accident at rail crossing in Na Jomtien
The collision occurred at about 4:49 a.m. on 5 April 2026 at the Huai Yai rail crossing in Tambon Na Jomtien. Officers from Na Jomtien Police Station were alerted and coordinated the response with rescue workers from the Sawang Rojanatham Sathan Foundation in Sattahip.
At the scene, police found a badly damaged white Honda Giorno motorbike. Both victims were discovered along the tracks in the direction of Sattahip.
Identity of the victims
One of the deceased was later identified as Miss Chinda Souvannalat, a national of Laos. The second woman could not initially be identified.
Authorities began the necessary procedures to confirm the identity of the second victim. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Freight train en route to Huai Khwang
About one kilometre from the point of impact, responders located the freight train involved, which was transporting crude oil. According to officials, the train had been travelling from Bang Phra towards Huai Khwang Station.
The locations where the bodies were found indicated that the victims were hit by the train after being thrown onto the tracks by the initial impact. Police secured the crash site and documented the scene.
Statement from the train driver
The train driver, Mr. Chatchai Wongsongwan Sodsri (39), told police that the barriers were already down when he noticed something on the tracks.
“I could not initially tell whether it was people or objects,”
said Mr. Chatchai, train driver.
The train continued its journey after passing the location. Investigators recorded his statement and were comparing it with other available evidence.
CCTV footage confirms sequence of events
Staff responsible for the barrier system later reviewed surveillance camera recordings. According to the footage, the motorbike accelerated and collided directly with the barrier, which had already been lowered.
Officials stated that the subsequent collision with the train led to the deaths of both women. The recordings formed part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigations and next steps
Police documented the crash site with photographs and secured physical evidence. Both bodies were sent for a full forensic examination.
Authorities planned to contact relatives in order to complete legal formalities. In parallel, investigations were continuing into the speed of the motorbike and any other factors that might have contributed to the accident.
