BANGKOK, THAILAND – The Thai government announced it would strictly enforce traffic laws nationwide from April 1 to improve road safety and cut fatalities from accidents.
Stricter traffic controls from April
From April 1, the current phase in which only warnings were issued was set to end, with a shift to strict enforcement of traffic rules. Authorities said the aim was to raise safety on the roads, especially during peak travel periods.

Warnings instead of fines since the start of the year
Since January, more than 196,000 warnings were issued through the police ticket management system to encourage better driving behavior. These notices were intended to sharpen awareness of traffic regulations.

Focus on major traffic violations

Deputy government spokesperson Airin Phanrit stressed that tougher enforcement responded to ongoing safety concerns. During the New Year holidays, more than 1,500 accidents and 272 deaths were recorded, underscoring the urgency of the measures.
Authorities called on drivers to comply with traffic regulations as enforcement tightened. They stated that the goal was to significantly reduce road fatalities in the coming years.
