NAKHON RATCHASIMA, THAILAND – A 250‑kilogram safe belonging to a social media influencer disappeared without a trace from a northeastern condominium despite keycard access and CCTV security.
Safe disappears without witnesses
Influencer “Mod Oi” reported on 16 March on Facebook that a safe about 128 centimetres tall had been removed from her apartment. She said the heavy object had been taken while she was away.
How such a large and heavy item could have left a high‑rise unnoticed became the central question circulating among residents and on social media. Users speculated about whether gaps in building security or insider knowledge might have played a role.
Gold, amulets, jewellery – loss in the millions
According to her account, the safe had contained gold bars weighing 35 baht as well as other valuables such as amulets and jewellery. She stated that the missing items represented a total loss of more than 3 million baht.
Because of the high value involved, the incident clearly went beyond a typical apartment burglary in economic terms. The scale of the damage drew significant attention online.
Security gaps despite keycards and CCTV
“Mod Oi” pointed out that the building contained more than 800 residential units and that access to floors was controlled by keycards, in addition to multiple surveillance cameras. She publicly questioned how any perpetrators could have organised the transport of the safe under these conditions.
She also asked how they could have known about the safe’s existence and apparently taken advantage of her absence. These unanswered points fuelled broader debate about the effectiveness of condo security measures.
Police probe CCTV and question witnesses
Police in Nakhon Ratchasima said officers had already examined the scene. They were reviewing CCTV footage from the condominium.
Investigators interviewed several witnesses and were checking traces in an effort to identify possible suspects. The inquiry focused on movements in and out of the building around the time of the reported theft.
Case treated as theft, forensics still pending
Authorities officially classified the incident as theft, while further results from forensic work were still pending. Officers awaited detailed findings from evidence collection inside the unit and common areas.
Until the forensic evaluations and full video review were completed, it remained unclear whether the case involved an insider tip, a targeted operation or part of a possible series. No further conclusions had been made public.
