PHUKET, THAILAND – A social media post from Phuket showed a rented room allegedly left as a near walk‑in garbage dump after a tenant moved out, triggering an online debate over responsibility and unpaid rent.

The Facebook page Phuketandamannews published images on 12 March from a dormitory room in the Koo Koo subdistrict of Mueang district. The pictures showed large piles of rubbish strewn across the floor, apparently leaving barely any space to walk.
Users widely shared the images, turning the case into a talking point on Thai social media. The post drew attention not only for the shocking state of the room but also for what it suggested about tenant–landlord relations.
Landlord describes discovery after move‑out
According to the photo caption, the owner only discovered the condition of the room after opening it following the tenant’s departure and was visibly stunned. The landlord claimed the tenant had most recently been living there alone.
The post stated that the tenant had worked at a convenience store in Phuket. No further personal details about the resident were given in the account.
Rent arrears and missing tenant
The owner said the tenant had been several months in arrears with the rent. Later, the tenant reportedly left the accommodation without settling the outstanding amounts.

According to that earlier account, the renter explained the outstanding payments with financial problems. The repetition of such cases on Phuket raised concerns among observers about how quickly rental relationships could deteriorate.
